After an amazing first day in Malta, my second day proved to be just as hectic but absolutely delightful. I decided to book a cruise with a local company called Sea Adventures to explore the enchanting islands of Gozo and Comino. This full-day experience came at the affordable cost of only €25. Given the compact size of Valletta, it was easy to find transportation from central Valletta to the charming town of Bugibba, where the cruise would depart.
The tour kicked off from the Promenade II Islands in St. Paul’s Bay, where the Sea Adventure catamaran awaited. Right from the start, the exceptional sight of Malta’s rocky coastline unfolded before me. The first gem in view was the tiny island of St. Paul’s, featuring the famous sculpture of the apostle Saint Paul. I couldn’t help but think that my super Catholic sister-in-law would have loved to see this.
Our journey continued along the transparent turquoise waters, leading us to the Blue Lagoon, located northwest of Comino Island. The lagoon is truly impressive; witnessing the beautiful shades of water was a remarkable sight! As the boat only makes stops here during the summer season, for us, it was only a quick glimpse from the catamaran. Nevertheless, the view was already breathtaking enough for me.
COMINO
After reaching the docking area at Comino, we had a one-hour stop to witness the beautiful sights and take a leisurely stroll around the island. Opting to stay on the beach, I chose to enjoy a refreshing “Sex on the Beach” cocktail and relax. I couldn’t ask for more: the weather was perfect, making this escape from the cold December weather in London a fantastic idea.
This season turned out to be ideal as it didn’t feel crowded at all. I imagine the experience would be quite different in the bustling summer months.
We continued our cruise north, making a stop at the harbor town of Mġarr in southeastern Gozo. Here, we had the option to ‘upgrade’ for €5 to the city center of Victoria, the capital city of Gozo. Opting for the upgrade, I ventured into this small and charming city, officially named Victoria after the Queen of England but more commonly referred to as Rabat by the locals. As hunger started to kick in, the universe seemed to conspire in my favor when I unexpectedly stumbled upon a vegan restaurant! Voila!
GOZO – CITTADELLA
After a satisfying lunch, my exploration continued to the famous Citadella, which stands proudly above the narrow winding streets of Gozo. The sheer effort it must have taken to build it here is truly remarkable. The visit to the Citadella was nothing short of spectacular. Standing by the walls offered a magnificent view. While there were charges to access some chapels, I was content with simply strolling around; the view was out of this world! It felt like stepping back in time. I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in the alleyways of the Citadella, capturing pictures and mini-clips, all while imagining its inhabitants throughout history.

Today, only a few families still live within the Citadel walls. In the main square, the Cathedral of Gozo dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands prominently. I couldn’t help but imagine my super Catholic sister-in-law again here, as she loves visiting churches.

Near the Citadella, a cluster of fascinating museums awaited my exploration, including the Cathedral Museum, the Museum of Archaeology, the Folklore Museum, the Gozo Nature Museum, the Old Prison, the Old Gunpowder Magazine, the Grain Silos, the Battery, and the World War II Shelter.
After returning to the harbour, we began our journey back to Bugibba, passing by the Crystal Lagoon for more amazing views. The experience concluded with a breathtaking sunset before arriving back in St. Paul’s Bay.
Upon our return, I used the Uber equivalent, ‘Bolt,’ which took less than an hour to reach Malta Airport.
This second day was truly fantastic! a super good value for money experience along the rocky coastline, beautiful lagoons, and remarkable landmarks steeped in history. The waters left such an impression that I’m already contemplating a return, perhaps in the summer.
